Teaching music to children is a great joy to me. In our comfortable and caring studio environment students and parents find new ways to weave and integrate music into their homes and personal lives.
In addition to lessons for adults and young children (see other programs), Joy of Music offers private lessons for students in grades one through twelve. These lessons are one-on-one and held weekly from September through June of each academic year. Depending on the abilities of the child, lessons last for 30 or 45 minutes.
Readiness for piano varies and depends on a number of factors including physical development and the ability to concentrate, focus, read and write. These factors, coupled with a real desire to learn the piano are essential ingredients for success! Please arrange for your child to have an interview with me. During this interview we will determine, together, not only if your child’s fingers are strong enough to play the piano, but if this is the right time to begin his/her musical journey at the keyboard.
In addition to creating lesson plans tailored to a student’s specific goals and needs, I enjoy collaborating with parents to achieve these goals. Working together to find appropriate practice routines and adequate time to prepare for special playing classes and recitals is always rewarding and produces fabulous results. Our studio activities include regular recitals, participating in the ABRSM exams, workshops, playing classes, outside concert attendance, and more.
In addition to awakening the creative self, piano study helps students learn to manage their time effectively and develop self-motivation. The ability to organize abstract sound into rhythmic patterns, section forms, harmonic sequences, and repeating structures, enhances the student’s study skills in other subjects. The desire to master a piece of music and share it with family, friends, and the community is a powerful experience lasting a lifetime.
The passion I have for music and teaching drives me to create innovative lesson plans and unique musical projects. I try to communicate the high expectations that I have of myself and my music to my students, inspiring them to respect and honor the subject matter we study together.
Each teaching day is an opportunity for me to be a positive, supportive, creative, and educational influence in my students’ lives. I strive to give my best to each child every time I teach a lesson.
